aerial photographs of Helmsley Castle in Yorkshire UK
Founded around 1120 by " Walter the Woodpecker " with much of the defences
constructed in the 12th and 13th century. During the Elizebethan period it was
more mansion than a military structure but that didn't stop it being faught over
in the English Civil War. It was held my Royalists until surrenedering to the
New Model Army under Fairfax in 1644. The castle was slighted afterwards but Fairfax
preserved the residential parts which he then kept for his daughter. Today its
under the care of English Heritage and open to the public. The photos of Helmsley
Xastle were taken in 2009 using the very best eqipment available which was a Canon
1DS mkIII, mounted on a Kenlabs KS8 Gyro stabilizer with canons sharpest lens,
the 85mm f1.2L. Together that little lot is worth more than some of the aircraft
