Metchley Roman Fort cb03472.jpg

Birmingham's Roman Fort lies under the Queen Elizebeth Hospital, the railway and the University. The centre of the fort is where the Vincent Rd roundabout is near the centre of the image. Remains of the fort were apparently still visible into the 20th century but are now built over. The western edge of the fort is marked by the line of trees running top to bottom through the middle of the hospital site.
