This is the site of the Battle of Marston Moor during the English civil war. The village of Tockwith lies on the left of the image and the road to York runs accross the middle from top left to bottom right. Now there is some debate as to exactly where and over how wide an area the battle was fought. If your a historian looking for an illustrative image then email me with your best guess as to the battle location as I have lots more images around this area.
