It was actually the tower that cought my eye rather than Marygate (the road running top to bottom in the centre of the photograph ) So far I havn't discovered if the tower has a special name ... email me if you know! After taking the photographs I have noticed the walls look rather thin for a defensive structure so it may well be a folly or re-creation. The ice creem van looked particularly inviting as we had been flying for 2 and a half hours on a hot (and turbulent) summers day when this was taken.
