It was designed by Sir John Vanbrugh who alos designed Blenheim Palace. In 2003 Time Team visited searching for remains of Henderskelfe village. Helmsley Castle was first constructed as a timber castle starting in the year 1120 AD, but by the end of the 12th century the castle had been rebuilt in stone. The castle was continually improved during the medieval period including building the Barbican in 1285 . The castle was visited by King Edward III in 1334. In 1478 the castle was bought by Richard, Duke of Gloucester who later became Richard III. He retained it until his death at the Battle of Bosworth in 1644, during the English Civil War, Helmsley Castle was besieged by Parliamentarian forces under Sir Thomas Fairfax . Following the war Parliament ordered all unnecessary castles to be slighted and most of the defensive structures were removed, however it retained it accommodation structures and continued to exist as a mansion house until it was eventually abandoned in the 18th century. Today its under the care of English Heritage.

aerial photographs of the Ribblehead Viaduct Ribblehead, North Yorkshire England UK.( aka Batty Moss Railway Viaduct ) The Grade II listed Ribblehead Viaduct was opened by the Midland Railway in 1875 and carries the Settle–Carlisle railway across Batty Moss in the Ribble Valley.The Viaduct took 6 years and 2000 men to construct. It was designed by John Sydney Crossley who was the Midland Railway's Chief Engineer. The remains of the construction camp still lie around the base of the viaduct.

The Abbey was dissolved by Henry VIII in 1538 and the ruins are now in the care of English Heritage. In its day it was one of the finest Abbeys in England and was home to 140 monks and 500 lay brothers. The monastic lands extended to over 6,000 acres and activities ranged from sheep farming to mining.

aerial photographs of the Thornborough Henges neolithic monument in Yorkshire England UK. Dating from 3500 to 2500 BC the monument consists of a set of three henges plus connecting cursus and burial grounds. When built the banks would have been covered in white gypsum making the layout strikingly visible. The exact purpose of the henge is unknown but it is clearly ceremonial and also the layout bears a resemblance to the Orion's Belt star pattern. Although the henges themselves are protected ancient monuments, the land surrounding is not protected and some of it is threatened with quarrying.

aerial photograph of Wharram Percy DMV - deserted medieval village in Yorkshire England UK. The site was settled in prehistoric times reaching its zenith around the 10th to 12th centuries. In 1086 the Doomsday book refers to the village as Warran. The village survived the Black Death of 1348-9 but succumbed to changing land use when landowners found it more profitable to farm sheep and evicted the villagers. Today the village is preserved and is one of the most studdied DMVs in England.
