aerial photograph of new bridge being built over the old disused Glazebrook East Junction–Skelton Junction line. The area has changed considerably since this image was taken in 2007 with most of it being built on including a new Waitrose store in the centre of the image. The Glazebrook East Junction–Skelton Junction line was opened in 1873 by the of Cheshire Lines Committee and carried trains through to Stockport. Passenger trains stopped in 1964 but the line carried freight until 1983 when Cadishead Viaduct was found to be unsafe and the line was closed. There is regular talk of repairing Cadishead Viaduct and reopening the line but at tie of writing, no plans have been successful.
