Ruthin Castle is a proper Welsh castle being built in the late 13th Century by Dafydd ap Gruffydd who named it Castell Coch yn yr Gwernfor.The castle survived the turbulent middle ages but finally fell to Cromwells forces in the English Civil War who then slighted it. What remains of the castle is now icorporated into a Hotel.
