aerial photograph of theWyre Light, Fleetwood Lancashire. Built 1839 to 1840 it marksg where the Lune Deep joins the River Wyre navigation channel.Originally it was known as the Port Fleetwood Lighthouse and was unusual in that it was constructed using cast iron screw piles which was a world first for an offshore light beacon. There was a two story wooden building and lantern on top but this burnt down in 1948 leaving just the frame on which an automatic beacon was placed and served until 1979. The structure now lies abandoned to its fate.
