aerial photograph of Chain Home Radar Station near Dover Kent England Great Britain UK. Built in 1936, Swingate transmitting station was part of the then new Chain Home Radar system. These radar installations played a huge role in winning the Battle of Britain. This was the transmitting site and originally there were four antennas. A separate receiving station with wooden antennas was built nearby. After the war the receiving station and one of the transmitting masts were take down. The station is currently used for various FM transmissions and one of the antennas has been replaced with a modern construction. Shortly after this photograph was taken the southern tower was removed and there is now only one original Chain Home tower left.
