aerial photograph of the P&O ferry Pride of Calais turning using its Manoeuvring thrusters. The Manoeuvring thrusters are mounted as bow thrusters and sometimes additional stern thrusters and allow the vessel to turn on the spot , rotating about its own axis. The Ferry in the photo is the MS Pride of Calais which was launched for Townsend Thoresen in 1987. They were re-branded as P&O followed the Herald of Free Enterprise disaster and under this name she did 20 years service before being replaced with a larger vessel in 2012. She was scrapped in 2013.
