( Castell Nedd ) Built in the 12th century not long after the Norman conquest by Gilbert de Clare, 5th Earl of Gloucester and replaced a temporary timber motte and bailey castle which had been built on the other side of the river.The Castle was captured by Llewelyn Fawr in 1231 and was again taken by force in 1321, this time by Humphrey de Bohun, 4th Earl of Hereford during the rebellion against Edward II . de Bohun subsequently destroyed the castle, which was again rebuilt in the 14th century and remained in use until the 17th century after which it fell into ruin.
