aerial photograph of Rivington Pike Tower Lancashire UK .Grade II listed Rivington Pike Tower was built in 1733 on the site of a beacon built in the 12th century. The beacon was built to warn of raids from Scotland but was also lit in 1588 to warn of the Spanish Armada. The 18th century tower was built as a hunting lodge. By the 20th century it was in such poor condition that demolition was planned. Fortunately it was rescued and made structurally sound. Today it is a popular resting point for walkers where it offers spectacular views over Lancashire
