Grade II listed St Elphin's Church, Warrington can trace its history back to the dark ages when the first church was erected on the site in by Saint Oswald of Northumbria for Saint Elphin. The first wooden church was replaced with a stone church and the oldest parts of the current church date from the 14th century. The church suffered significant damage at the hands of Parliamentarian forces during the English Civil war and much of it had to be rebuilt at the end of the 17th century. like so much of our ecclesiastical heritage the church suffered a Victorian make over and a large part of the current church dates from the Victorian period including its most dramatic feature, the 86m spire.
