Grade I listed Church of St Mary-on-the-Hill was built in the14th century to replace a previous Norman Church, both of which served as the Castle Church. The Church was badly damaged in both the English Civil war and in the Jacobite rising. The building was restored in the Victorian period and was used as a parish church until 1972. Today it is used as St Mary's Creative Space and is used for concerts and exhibitions.
