aerial photograph of Standish Viaduct, aka Twenty Bridges, on the Whelley Loop Line Standish, Wigan , Lancashire UK. Standish Viaduct consists of 13 brick arches and 20 iron spans crossing the Douglas valley. The viaduct was built by the Lancashire Union Railway and opened in 1882. The Whelley Loop Line closed in the 1970s and today it lies abandoned and derelict, a huge shame for such an important piece of engineering heritage.
