aerial photograph of the River Irwell at Prestolee Bolton where it flows under the Prestolee Aqueduct which was built in 1793 to carry the Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal over the Irwell. The canal is currently disused but there are plans to restore it and to that end the Mecanno Bridge has been constructed on the left of the photo. In fron of the Aqueduct is the Grade II listed Prestolee Bridge, a packhorse bridge dating from the 18th century.
