aerial photograph of Builth Castle, Builth Wells Powys Wales. Builth Castle was built by Edward I ( Edward Longshanks ) in AD1277 - 1282 on the site of an older Motte and Bailey earthwork castle which had been destroyed by destroyed by Llywelyn ap Gruffudd (Llywelyn the Last). The castle was besieged by Madog ap Llywelyn during the Welsh revolt of 1294 and attacked again by Owain Glyndŵr during the Welsh Rebellion of AD 1400-1415. The castle burnt down in the 16th Century and thereafter was robbed of stone for buiuldings in the town. Today only the earth works remain.
