aerial photograph of Dinefwr Castle near Llandeilo Carmarthenshire, Wales. According to legend Dinefwr Castle was built by Rhodri the Great in the dark ages, however no archaeological evidence has emerged to confirm this. More likley it was built by Hywel Dda, king of Deheubarth, in the 10th century. The castle was rebuilt by Rhys ap Gruffydd in the 12th century. The castle was captured by Edward I in 1277 and burnt down during the Welsh rebellion of 1316. The castle was besieged by Owain Glyndŵr in 1403 but held firm. The castle was converted to a summer house in the 17th century but burnt down in the 18th century. Today the castle is owned by the Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales and lies within the Dinefwr Park.
