aerial photograph of Riber Castle Matlock Derbyshire England UK taken when the building was derelict and in ruins in 2007. Built in 1862 by a Mr John Smedley from which the buildings nickname is "Smedley's Folly" is derived. After the last of the Smedley family residents passed away the house was used a school and then during the war the MOD used it for storage. Later a zoo was built around the house but this closed in 2000. The building has lain in ruins for many years but since this photo was taken in 2007 the building has been restored and converted into apartments.
