aerial photographs of Brancepeth Castle Durham England UK.Grade I listed Brancepeth Castle was first mentioned in 1216 and was rebuilt by Ralph Neville around 1398. The castle was given a Victorian makeover 1818-21 by John Patterson but much of the medieval architecture has survived into the present. During the second world war the building was used as regimental headquarters for the Durham Light Infantry and a large military camp was built adjacent the castle in the foreground of this photograph
