aerial photograph of Bridgnorth Castle Shropshire UK. Bridgnorth Castle was first constructed around AD 1101 with the Keep in the photograph being constructed around AD1200. During the English Civil war Bridgenorth was garrisoned by Royalist Forces and besieged by the Parliamentarians. The Siege lasted for 3 weeks but in the end Cromwell prevailed and the Royalists surrendered. Following the battle Parliament ordered the castle to be demolished. Attempts to bring down the keep were not fully successful leaving it a 75 degree angle, a state in which it has remained ever since.
