The Severn Valley Railway was built by the Severn Valley Railway Company between 1858 and 1862 and originally ran from Hartlebury, near Droitwich Spa to Shrewsbury. The line became part of the Great Western Railway in 1863.A Hundred years later the line fell victim to Dr Beeching's cuts and was closed in 1963.The Severn Valley Railway Society was formed in 1965 to try and save the line as a heritage railway and the first section to be saved was reopened in 1970. Today the Severn Valley Railway is one of England's top tourist attractions and more successful now than it has ever been. The station building in the photograph was constructed around 1840 and is grade II listed.
