Great Woolden Hall Farm promontory Hillfort fb1152.jpg
Iron Age - Romano- Brittish settlement excavated in the 1980s. Located on an easily defended site the settlement was protected by the River Glaze to the south and west and moss to the north and east. In the 1980s crops were grown on the site which revealed crop marks.Currently the site is pasture and nothing is visible on the plateau although I will be keeping an eye on it should we get a strong drought. Flints have been found on the site indicating human presence as far back as the neolithic period with subsequent occupation and development through the Bronze and Iron age until around the second century AD.
