aerial photograph of Bramhall Hall Tudor manor house Stockport Cheshire. Bramhall Hall dates from the 14th century with 16th and 19th century alterations. The building replaced previous structures going back to the Saxon period when the area was owned by Anglo-Saxons named Brun and Hacun. Following the Norman Conquest the area was attacked as part of William the Conqueror's Harrying of the North when 75% of the English population was murdered by the Normans or starved due to William the Conqueror's scorched earth tactics . After the massacres were finished in AD 1070 what was left of Bramhall was given to a Norman Baron, Hamon de Massey. The Doomsday book records the manor of Bramhall as being worth 32 shillings before the Norman Conquest in AD 1066 and only 5 shillings when the doomsday book was written in AD 1086. The hall stands in the middle of Bramhall Park and is open to the public.
