Latchford Viaduct was built by the London and North Western Railway (LNWR) to cross the Manchester Ship Canal and was opened in 1893. The bridge was in use for passenger services until 1962 and for freight services until 1985 but was then closed due to its poor condition and now faces an uncertain future.
