aerial photograph of Castle Hill Iron Age hill fort Huddersfield West Yorkshire. The site has been occupied for more than 4000 years and while the remains of the Iron Age Hill fort are clearest to see today, the site also includes a 12th-century motte and bailey castle and deserted medieval village. The tower on the summit is not as old as it looks and was opened in 1899 to celebrate the silver jubilee of Queen Victoria. During World War 2 , an anti-aircraft battery was constructed on the fort, some parts of which remain today.
