aerial photograph of Thurland Castle Lancashire UK. The earliest parts of the Grade II listed castle date from 1402 when Sir Thomas Tunstall was given a license to crenellate. In 1643 during the English Civil War the castle was badly damaged by Parliamentarian troops after which what remained was converted into a country house. Today the building is used as private homes.
