aerial photograph of Trentham Gardens , Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire England UK. Trentham Gardens is part of the Trentham Estate which was first recorded in 1086 as an entry in the Domesday Book where it was shown as being worth 115 shillings. A series of Halls were built on the site cumulating in the Trentham Hall built 1833Ð42 and designed by Charles Barry who also designed the Palace of Westminster. The surrounding grounds were laid out by designed by Capability Brown.By the beginning of the 20th century Trentham Hall was in a poor state. It was offered free to the local council who tuned it down and most of it was demolished in 1912-13. Some small parts of the hall remain but best preserved are the Gardens which are now listed and open to the public. The image was taken on a quiet summer evening and amusingly, the small spot at the top of the main footpath above the steps, is a bride and groom holding hands and having thier photograph taken.
