aerial photograph of Kinnerley Ammunition Depot ( ammo dump ) Shropshire. During World War II, the sleepy Shropshire village of Kinnerley was home to a massive Ammunition Depot with over 200 Ammunition storage buildings. The buildings were spread over a wide area to avoid the risk of a detonation in one building taking out the whole site. Each building was fed by a train line which ran right inside the building so the munitions could be unloaded under cover from the weather. The site was not declassified until the 1950s and today lies largely abandoned. Some of the buildings have found civil uses but many lie abandoned moldering away until they finally colapse.
