aerial photograph of Middlesbrough Transporter Bridge, England UK. Opened in 1911 it is one of the few remaining Transporter Bridges in the UK. With this type of structure the the passengers travel in a Gondola ( yellow structure under the left bridge pillar on the photo ) The Gondola is suspended from the frame and travels across the river. Its quite a large structure and can carry 200 people or 9 cars, or 6 cars and a minibus. This has the advantage of leaving the waterway clear of conventional bridge decks. The bridge cost £68,026 6s 8d and today is a Grade II listed monument.
