The site was previously occupied by Rhodes Cotton Mill and the Pollard Street Iron Works. There was also once a canal wharf called Manor Wharf which went off the Ashton Canal at 90 degrees and under what is today Milliners Wharf . The area in the foreground now occupied by the row of houses was once the Wellington Cotton Mills and Pierry Street Foundary.
