aerial photograph of Abbotts Hall Managed Coastal Realignment Scheme. The sea has been allowed through the North bank of the Salcott channel which is a tributary of the Blackwater Estuary in Essex. The goal is to improve biodiversity by creating new coastal mudflats and salt marshes. To achieve this the sea defences were breached five times along a 3km stretch.
