The Byker Viaduct aka Byker Metro Bridge was built 1976-82 to a design by Ove Arup and Partners and constructed by John Mowlem & Co Ltd. The viaduct carries the Tyne and Wear Metro railway and is 815m long and 30m high. Also in the photo are the adjacent Ouseburn railway viaduct (top) opened in 1839 and Byker road bridge (bottom ) opened in 1899.
