Grade II listed Wakefield Lodge was built in 1748 to 1750for 2nd Duke of Grafton and designed by by William Kent. There were some 19th century extensions but these were removed when much of the rear of the house was demolished in 1948. The surrounding parklands were landscaped by Lancelot 'Capability' Brown who's work took 7 years . Brown enlarging the lake , added a smaller lake and plantedtrees with vistas through the forest.
