In the foreground are Mason Marble and the Stagecoach Depot. Also in the photo is the railway junction between the London and North Western Railway joins the Great Central Railway. The line was originally constructed by the Manchester and Birmingham Railway in 1840 and they then merged with the LNWR in 1846. The line to Sheffield was built by the Sheffield, Ashton-Under-Lyne and Manchester Railway in 1842. This included a Station at Arwick in the centre of the photo.
