Battersea gasometer from the air

aerial photograph of Battersea Gasworks London showing the old gasometer. The old gasometer was built before the second world war and there were proposals to preserve it but in the end it was decided to demolish it and the other gas holders as part of the Nine Elms regeneration. Similar gas holders in German have been preserved and found new uses, for example the Oberhausen Gasbehälter is used as an exhibition space and the Gasbehälter in Wuppertal-Heckinghausen has been converted for multiple uses including offices, a restaurant
and fitness studio. The Battersea gas holder was demolished in 2015 and the site has now been redeveloped.
