The beach has been the site of a number of shipwrecks over the centuries including the Mary Ann in 1906, the Ben Brace in 1867, The Blessing in 1825 ( with the loss of all hands ) , The Linnet in 1825 and The Brothers also in 1825. Aber Mawr is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and in 1866 the first transatlantic telegraph cable came ashore here at Abermawr.
