The Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway was opened in 1927 and is a 15" gauge narrow gauge heritage railway which runs from Hythe to Dungeness. It was constructed using war surplus First World War rail. .During the second world war the line was used for military purposes and even ran a miniature armoured train. Today the railway is one of Kent's top tourist attractions and carries over 150,000 passengers per year. Typhoon is a 4-6-2 steam locomotive constructed by Davey Paxman & Co. in 1927.
