aerial photograph of Highgate transmitter London UK, aka Swain's Lane Television Receiving Station. The transmitter on Swain's Lane was set up for BBC broadcasts before the war. During the war it was used in conjunction with Alexander Palace for crucial operations to jam enemy radio navigation signals and thus preventing bombs reaching their target. The transmitter was used for outside broadcasts by the BBC until quite recently but now most such broadcasts are routed by satellite. The Antenna continues in use for mobile telecommunications.
