Grade I listed Kelham Hall was built in 1863 to a design by Sir George Gilbert Scott.A masterpiece in Victorian Gothic revival, Scott later used some of the design elements in his work on St Pancras Station and the Midland Grand Hotel. In 1903 the Hall was turned into a theological college. In 1928 the great chapel was added surmounted by the second largest concrete dome in England. In 1973 the college closed and the Hall became home to Newark and Sherwood District Council who remained there until 2014. It has now been converted to a hotel.
