aerial photograph of Rufford Abbey Nottinghamshire England UK. Founded in 1147 as a Cistercian Abbey, it was dissolved by Henry VIII in 1536. The remains were rebuilt as a country house in the 16th Century. The Abbey was bought by Nottinghamshire County Council in 1952 who then demolished the North Wing and East Wing. What remains of the building is now Grade I listed and under the care of English Heritage.
