aerial photograph of Central Exchange building and Central Arcade, Newcastle upon Tyne England UK. The Grade II listed Central Exchange building was built in 1838 as a Corn Exchange. The building was damaged internally ba a fire in 1901 and as a result the interior was rebuilt as the Central Arcade. The Grade II listed Central Arcade was designed by Oswald and Son and opened in 1906. Many such shopping arcades were built in the Edwardian period however most have been lost and central arcade is a rare survivor.
