aerial photograph of mega crane at TechnipFMC Umbilicals Newcastle upon Tyne , Tyne and Wear England UK. TechnipFMC Umbilicals , formerly DUCO, is the world’s largest steel tube umbilical assembly plant and the crane, built in 1930 has recently been given a £4m restoration so that it can continue to be used for loading and unloading at the site. Originally it was built for working on Royal Navy Battleships such as King George V and aircraft carriers such as the original Ark Royal, when the site was part of the Walker Naval Yard. The hammerhead crane is the largest of its type remaining in England. When built it could lift 250 Tonnes but following its recent upgrade can now lift 320 Tonnes.
