aerial photograph of Holy Jesus Hospital and remains of an Augustinian Friary that was built in the 13th century in Newcastle upon Tyne England UK. Only the tower remains of the Augustinian Friary which was founded in 1290 and dissolved by Henry VIII in 1540. In 1681 the Holy Jesus Hospital was built partly on the site of the Friary and incorporated the tower. The Holy Jesus Hospital is Grade II listed and under the care of the National Trust. The building is one of the last two Newcastle buildings from the 17th century. Today it is surrounded by high rise buildings and structures, a far cry from the tranquillity of the Friary.
