aerial photograph of all that remains of Nore Fort , one of the Maunsell Sea Forts built during World War II as anti aircraft defences. The structure was constructed ashore and then towed to its operational site for a controlled sinking into place. The fort suffered storm and collision damage in 1953 and was thereafter deemed a shipping hazard and dismantled. What little remains was brought ashore and can be seen here at low tide near Cliffe Fort. Also in the bottom of the image is the wreck of the Hans Egede, built in 1922.
