aerial photograph of Electric Mountain Dinorwig hydroelectric power station Gwynedd North Wales. The Power Station is a pumped storage system designed to cover short periods of high demand. Built in 1974 - 1984 the system uses water flowing from Marchlyn Mawr reservoir at the top of Elidir Fawr through underground tunnels and generating equipment to Llyn Peris at the bottom of the mountain. Once the high demand has passed, the water is pumped back up again.
