aerial photograph of Haverfordwest Castle Pembrokeshire, Wales. Haverfordwest Castle is a Norman catle originally built around AD 1120 and then rebuilt at the end of the 13th century. The castle held out against an attack by Llywelyn Fawr in 1220 and again in 1257 when it was attacked by Llywelyn the Last. In the 14th century the castle was home to Edward, the Black Prince. In 1405 the castle held out against an attack by Owain Glyndŵr and was briefly repaired and refortified during the English Civil war following whcih Cromwell ordered it be destroyed. After the war the castle was used as a gaol with the 19th century prison building surviving to this day.
