aerial photograph of St. James Church, Louth Lincolnshire UK. One of Britain's finest medieval churches, the Nave and Chancel were built 1430-40 with the spire added between 1500 and 1515. The original treadwheel used to construct the spire is still in place under the floor. At 287 ft tall the spire is the tallest steeple of any medieval parish church in Britain. The weathecock was made from Copper taken at the Battle of Flodden and added to the spire amid great rejoicing on Thursday 13 September 1515. On 1st October 1536 crowds gathered outside the church and began the Linconshire Rising against Henry VIII's church reforms. The Rising was brutally suppressed and the Vicar was amongst those Executed.
