aerial photograph of Wallerscote Chemical Works ( aka Wallerscote Island soda ash works ) Wallerscote Island Northwich Cheshire England UK. The former ICI works at Winnington and Wallerscote originally opened in 1873 as Brunner, Mond & Co. Ltd the site produced Soda Ash. It was here that Polythene was invented in 1933 quite by accident. The site had various owners until it finally closed in 2014.
