aerial photograph of the great tower at Penrice Castle on the Gower Peninsula, South Wales. Penrice Castle was built by the de Penrice family in the 13th century to replace a timber Motte & bailey structure which had been constructed about a mile away, shortly after the Norman Conquest. The owners moved to Margam Abbey in the 16th century after which the castle was used for farming but was eventually abandoned leaving the ruin we see today.l
